    Default Straightened My Stash

Last week I was looking for a certain piece of fabric and I couldn't find it. I had my stash folded up in a 3 drawer plastic unit on rollers. Today I cut 5 X 12 inch cardboard pieces to make mini bolts. I took all of my stash out and rolled and rolled and rolled it onto my cardboard mini bolts. It is now all neatly lined up in the drawers and I can acually see what's in there. Yes! I even found the piece of fabric I was looking for. I also discovered I don't need to buy fabric for a while or I need to sew faster.

Isn't it wonderful? I have mine all sorted too and it makes it so much fun to start quilting and find everything. I just love my room since I organinzed and keeping it that way is so easy now.

I have my fabric wrapped on boards too. I do not sort my fabric by color, I sort it by size. I became so frustrated when had it sorted by color and would pull out a piece an find it was to small. I heard a speaker at the Indianapolis Guild talk about sorting by size and I tried it. I find it easier and also I tend to see more fabric possibilities by having all the colors mixed. Congrats on getting it sorting done.

I fold mine by size (I fold less than 1/2yd one way, 1 1/2 or less another and 2 yd or more a third way) so I know at a glance about how much I have. I fold them around rulers.

That is what I started over a year ago. Still have some to do. But I am getting there. What will be nice is when I get things unpacked after our move to this house .

I have mine wrapped on rolls, too. I sort mine according to projects. The fabric that is not for a special project is sorted according to solid floors and printed colors. I love to be able to put my hands on a certain piece when I need it.

I almost have all my fabric on small bolts still need to empty the two chest of drawers in the guest bedroom and tonight I found another plastic bin full of fabric! GRRRRRRRRRR I thought I had emptyed all those bins! I think I have all my boxes, baskets, bins, and bags of scraps trimed and sorted by size. Just need more space to put the bolts! LOL Guess I'll have to put bolts into the bins, untill I get some cabnets in that room. No more new fabric untill This is used down to a managable size and my UFO's are caught up! I'll worry about how to sort the bolts after I have found all my fabric, right now It's a general guidline same color family together with holiday fabfic seprate. My stash isn't as large as some have, but it seams big to me.
