Stupid mistake

If it isn’t one thing, it’s another. I was going to do some appliqué on a quilt for someone special. I used a supposedly washable felt pen to freehand the ‘branch’ for the flowers in a similar color. The pen marks are behind the stitching and very visible (bright lime green).

I tried spritzing water on it to remove the marks...nothing happened. Then spray-on stain remover. The marks on the bottom have faded some, but not these. I can’t wash it because it’s not bound or quilted.
The only thing I can think of is to pick out the stitches and do the stitch over in a darker and slightly larger stitch, unless someone has a better suggestion. I tried to upload a pic but it just wouldn’t go.

Try double stitching over the lines

Jamie Wallen of Quilter's Apothecary says he used a product called Sew Clean on a quilt where he'd accidently used a Sharpie marker and it did come out. But he doesn't say whether it was days later or immediately after the mistake.

I had a similar issue when using Crayola Washable Markers. I water spritzed and nothing happened. Then I read the directions and it said to use soap and water to remove. Could that be the problem?

It's certainly Not a stupid mistake. It's more one of trusting too much. One thing I learned from this I guess is to do a fabric test first. There are a lot of good suggestions already made. Good luck and hope you don't have to pick out stitches.
