I have not connected to the Quilting Board in such a long time... but need advice on making a T shirt quilt (a request from a friend whose father passed away). Hints and any mistakes made that I can avoid. Thank you.

I stabilized each block with Pelion SF101. If you don’t stabilize I don’t think it turns out as nice. I also sashed. Picture below. If you have any questions PM me.

Very nice T-shirt quilt. I'm in the process of making one for first Grandson, but he can't give me the remaining 4 t-shirts as he is still wearing them in his Senior Year. Am looking forward to completing it. The blocks I have so far are interfaced and ready to go.

I do a lot of tee shirt quilts for clients. Few suggestions: wash the tees before working with them, even if person says they are clean. I learned the hard way. I use a lightweight pellon fusible on the back. I use a chalk liner to draw the sewing lines on the tee shirt and make sure the fusible is beyond that. I don’t trim excess until sashing is on, find it helps to keep the edges of the tee stable. If you have questions along the way, don’t hesitate to reach out...happy to help you.

I just finished a t-shirt quilt. There was a wide variety of logo sizes from pocket-patch to full back. I also had too many shirts to make each one the same size with framing, so it had to be every shirt sewed to another. Here are things I learned.....
1 - stabilize everything with iron-on pellon
2 - really think about the shirts you have in contrast to the multitude of tips videos you will watch first. Yours may not be the same, so the tips are not applicable
3 - do NOT cut anything until you are ready to sew
4 - graph paper is your friend
5 - it can be a lot of work but the end product is worth every bead of sweat

I have only made one T-shirt quilt. The only thing I could add to what has already been said is to be sure you have plenty of space around your design of the shirt for your seam allowances. Some one precut the shirts and left little to no seam allowance. Big mistake.

Thank you for the tutorial. The steps are similar to what I did for my first 2 t-shirt quilts, the second better than the first. Now I have 2 more to make for grandkids. I used uniform size shirt squares and sashing...no minky. I will be incorporating some of your great suggestions.
