What do you use for batting in table runners. I have used left over W & N or Hobbs in the past, but was wondering about something thinner.

I have not made a table runner yet but what about old pillow cases or sheets. Not like they have to be warm. I made some mug rugs for my aunts and used pillow cases for the batting.

Recently I made a runner using a clothing iron on clothing interfacing as the center. It gave it some structure to lay flat and some body to the runner. If you choose to try this make sure you purchase clothing interfacing not the craft interfacings as the craft ones will shrink because they contain rayon or viscose. Get the 100 percent poly , many different "stiffnesses" to pick from.

I have used flannel for runners and really liked the results. Just be sure it has been washed first, maybe twice as it will shrink.

I am using insulbrite in runners and placemats. I have a wooden table and this works good for keeping the heat from hot items from touching the wood. It is also thinner then batting.

I have used Hobbs thermore. Very thin.

I use my scraps of Hobbs for placemats and table runners.

I once made a lot of table toppers for my church and used some old polyester I had been gifted with. Made them stable and they didn't move around easily..

When you use Insulbrite in placements, do you also use batting. Maybe that's a dumb question, but I have never made placemats. Is the Insulbrite just to make it heat resistant?
