Backing for Table Runner
Carol......I use one of the fabrics from the front of the runner. And I actually cut it an inch larger on all sides to use as my binding. I can turn it and then top stitch it down and not have to cut separate pieces and then sew it on and turn an then sew it down by hand, The first way saves time. Hope this helps.

I also try to make it reversible. I have friends that make one side for Thanksgiving and one for Christmas. Can't remember if they used binding or just did the "pillowcase" method without binding. Where you just sew the fronts together and leave an opening and turn inside out and stitch the opening shut and then topstitch around the edge.

I usually use a printed fabric that closely matches the front...I lucked out in Lyndonville NY. I found 108 in. wide backing fabric for $5.99 a yard....I bought a lot of white and off-white just to have for those times I want a plain backing.....
