    Default Table runner width

My question is what is (are) the most common width for a table runner?
I need to make one in a hurry & really don't want to buy a pattern for this one.
    Thanks,
    Joan

I've seen table runners as narrow as 14" and as wide as 36"...it is a personal choice often based on the table it will be going on- any size is fine- there is no (normal/common) size. make it the size you want it to be. (most of my runner patterns are between 14" & 20")

Thank you for the info. I think I'll go with 14".

I agree. It depends on the size of the block used in a pattern. Good Luck!!

I like 18 - 20 inches, but really, a lot depends on the table your runner is intended for. I think it also depends a bit on how long you're making it. Mine are 6 feet long, intended for a big old table, so anything too small looks lost. I find that the width is most pleasing when it seems proportional to the length, so a shorter runner can get away with being narrower.

check out this you tube video on the 10 minute table runner....http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Kfg8BMUakOc
It really does take about 10 minutes and it's like the ones being sold at Pier 1. They are about 12" wide. I've seen them done in Christmas fabrics and they're lovely.
