Default Table top iron cover

I recently just bought a table top iron for a diy project I had done using it on top of a 4 cube bookcase from IKEA. My question is does anyone know of a pattern to make the ironing board cover? The one it came with is a bit flimsy and not as thick so I need to make my own. I do not sewing elastic so I was thinking of a casing an inserting an elastic but I don't know where to start to make one. Any ideas or suggestions are welcome!

I would simply use the existing as a template/pattern. I'd probably go with a casing vs elastic. Add a couple of inches all the way around the top edges of your top. Fold over 1/2 inch all the way around; fold over at least another 1/2 inch all the way around again and then stitch down making sure you can slip a cord through the corner as well as leave an opening on either the wide or short edge to pull the string through. Get some cording from JoAnn's or the like and feed through the casing. I use a large safety pin to help feed through. Make sure you get a good 12-18 inches longer than the 4 sides measurement of cording so you have enough length to tug tight and tie off.

I pull a pillow case over mine & secure with a safety pin. Then I can turn when sticky or starchy & remove & wash when necessary. Not sure if that is feasible with your set up.

Thank you for the ideas and help. GramE love your idea but the tabletop hardware is affixed to the top of the bookcase. I may have to redo the position of the table top board.

If possible to move table top ironong board, I would, remove it, staple fabric to back and the replace.
