I use floral tape. Inexpensive and found at my local Walmart.

I have purchased very thin vinyl from the home dec area at Joann's and cut it into widths to fit my spools. Get the thinnest you can find otherwise it is too bulky and wont stay in the spool.

What I have was called Hugo's Amazing Tape.
It is much less expensive and totally equal to purchase the very thin vinyl from Joann's and cut into strips.
