There are a few good things about WalMart losing their fabric dept.

reproductions prints are new fabrics from old designs or time periods.
there's 30s, civil war, etc.
there's nothing wrong with the quality its just a taste preference and a style preference.
i'm sure you've looked at a quilt or a pattern and said i love it but i would prefer to make it in batiks or cottage, etc - its the same thing for me.
i'm just not inspired to work with repro fabrics - well maybe 50s for an apron but thats about it.
there's 30s, civil war, etc.

Compared to these hand dyed fabrics, the ones at CT are a steal! I'm kinda glad I'm not into hand dyed with these prices.

I love Walmart. :D Our fabric department ladies are awesome.
Mostly, I buy garment fabrics there. I get really nice stuff for $2 per yard and the outfits last for years. I am really bad about discarding clothes... just yesterday, I realized I was wearing a dress I made nearly 20 years ago -- and I bought the fabric at Walmart.
I wish they had more knits, though. My 2nd DIL likes her maternity clothes in a very thin knit. I bought the two prints they had, and they haven't had any more in yet.

Klue, I've read other postings from you where you mentioned getting good fabric prices online. Perhaps you have already done so in another post, but I'm a newbie and have not see it...could you mention a few of your favorite sites? I've ordered from Hancocks of Paducah and Keepsake Quilting. I love looking at their selections but their prices are not what I'd call bargains unless you catch it on clearance.

$5 or $6 per yard including shipping is my new "normal". (took me a looooooong time to get over paying that much.) here is my second stop online. they usually have plenty for $5 or less, but i don't usually have to pay more than $6. they also ship internationally.: http://www.thousandsofbolts.com/index.cfm
i mention the internation shipping because i know our overseas friends pay so much more than we do for fabrics. even after shipping, these two sites are money savers. it depends on whether or not you live in a country that sticks it to you on customs charges.

Oh, boy! I may be in trouble. I took a look and I think I'm going to be doing a lot of poking around at these sites and checking out what's new on them. Thanks for the great leads! These are great resources for those of us on a budget.
