YES I remember them! and I HAVE all the bins with my mom's rolled up left overs! The material is still great and there's stuff that I'm going to use in my quilts. I was surprised to also find all MY leftovers in the bins also! All my favorite material!! I've used some of it and will use it all . . . when I have the time! Lots of GREAT MEMORIES. I have my mom's patterns too - these are so much fun to look back at!

My mother always bought a little less fabric than the pattern called for, because she knew she could make the item with less fabric and anything left over, she made doll clothes or gave the scraps to my Great Aunt and she made quilts. It was so much fun to see the fabric in a quilt that I had a dress made from.

Shes a little weird I guess. They throw lots of stuff away and put it in garbage bags so the people that might pick it up and use it, can't. Said they don't want other people using their stuff, even if they're thru with it.Originally Posted by bearisgray

misty's mom, I don't understand that, the same thing happen to me in a quilting class, a couple of member throw their scraps in the garbage can and I would say can I have those, and they would say No! After class the teacher told me, the garbage can was for fabric only, and I can take all I want.

I don't understand it either. It wasn't like I was asking for a handout
. I even save all my scraps that I can't use and give to animal shelter. As far as putting things out to the curb, if I think someone may come along that can use if, I leave it out on top so it can be seen. Sometimes it's gone before the garbage truck comes, sometimes not.

I took Home Ec in school, but mostly I am self-taught. Learned a few important things in class, tho.
