I've become intrigued by the kawandi technique. Been binge watching tutorials. Has anyone tried it? Thoughts? Did you enjoy it? Thinking I might try a small sampler project as recommended on most of the online videos.

I made this 14” x 21” approx. runner a couple years ago. I enjoyed the process however I don’t recommend using the batiks as it gets hard to stitch through in some areas. I used a piece of flannel inside, and chose not to add the corner hanging pieces, can’t remember their name at the moment, sorry.

I watched several you tube videos about it and was intrigued. I thought I would try it but so far haven't started one. Seems a good way to use leftover fabric.

I tried it, I watched youtube videos until I felt confident enough to begin. I liked it before I washed it. I had raw edges and stitched across it in the design. My fabrics raveled horribly. I worked on a placemat size for testing the process. I much prefer Boro stitching, I turned the edges under and then stitched across the fabric.

I tried the raw edge method with my GD and much prefer turning the edges under as you go, when stitching down. Her little mat is very “stringy” now but we just trim it now and then 😃

I enjoyed making a little piece about the size of a chair seat, but I doubt if I'll make another. I did use cotton batting inside and that made it somewhat difficult to pull perle cotton through. Flannel would probably be better. Also, perle cotton was difficult for me to thread through the needle, although I have no problem with sashiko thread. I enjoyed using different colors of thread with big stitches on scrappy squares and rectangles. Give it a try - it may become your "thing."
