I also have a 6 drawer plastice bin on wheels - available at office supply stores. For my cones I have plastic storage boxes with a handle on the lid....I think I got those from Costco. I need to get more because Fabric Depot had Serger cones on sale for $2.50....and I have enough of those to last me a decade...if I live that long. :shock:

I have a very large basket. I put the spools acording to color in heavy plastic one gallon Zip lock bags. I put a cheap dollar store pony tail holder on each one of the spools so they don't unravel. I just have to reach for the right color bag open it up and reach in. This is very inexpensive and easy to find the right one quickly. It also keep them clean and dust free.

My husband brought me a couple of candy jars that were used to sell candy in old drug stores. I put about 30 spools in there. Hope it will help you or gives you an Idea

My big sewing table is set on top of three drawer chests for a base. They are 30" x 30" which is quite deep. The one to my left has all my threaded bobbins and the items I use constantly like thread snips, seam rippers etc. in the top drawer. I have a piece of foam board to lay over the top to hold pieces I want to sew. The second drawer holds all my regular spools of thread in shoe box tops. They are spread out so I can see the color I need immediately. It sure helps that I'm left handed also.

I keep all my dec thread in a 12" x12" seven drawer, plastic tower from WM with wheels. Each drawer holds a specific brand or use like Sulky, metalics etc. I can wheel it to the machine where I'm doing embroidery etc.

I purchased Lily 3 drawer plastic units on wheels from
Office Max...my husband cut white peg board to fit
the drawers....then purchased wooden dowels the size of
the holes in the peg board....cut them to height needed
for spools...spaced them for spool size and glued them
in the holes of the peg board....I'm very happy with
that setup...works well for me

I buy shredded parmesan at Sam's that come in plastic containers (Animal Crackers come in bigger ones). I use the smaller ones for spools and the cones in large ones.

I live in a part of Southern California that has wind like Chicago. Therefore I keep my thread in plastic containers. My fabric is kept in closed drawers for the same reason.

I save the clear plastic tubs we get strawberries in and they fit neatly inside a deep drawer. So now I can divide my colours into separate tubs. They do get tangled sometimes but it's easier.
