I have been back from my trip to Europe for a two weeks, and I thought I would share some of what I saw (quilt wise).
I found two quilt shops in Amsterdam, side by side, one was called the Birdblocks and the other ?? Birdblocks was a great little shop, selling mainly what we can get here in Australia, plus some Dutch prints - very nice and not too expensive. I did buy a few things, but there was a book there that I now regret not buying. :(
The shop next door to it sold reproduction Dutch chintz which were amazing but out of my price range.
The best thing was that when I was in London, I visited the V&A and they had several of the original Dutch chintz quilts on show! Amazing there were these 300 year old quilts, and they looked as good as the new fabric on sale. I was in awe of them. No pics unfortunately, I broke my good camera on Day 4, and had to buy a very poor replacement.
One of my sons who lives in Amsterdam said to me: Mum I have lived here for 6 months and I have not found any fabric shops, and you are here a day and you know where they all are!( he makes his own bandanas)
I did not see a single quilt/fabric shop in England, but I wasnt really looking for them.

I wonder how they preseved those 300 year old quilts??? My mother once told me that there was a process to preserve wedding gowns and such, but I don't know what it is, and she is no longer with us.

I know there are fabric stores in the London area, but I've not managed to find them yet. And looking on some of the locaters yields stores that are not easily accessible.
I was in Denmark for a week, including a day in Sweden and visited four shops (3 in Denmark, 1 in Sweden) and brought back enough material to make the customs agent raise his eyebrows a bit.
