54-40 or fight is probably the one you want. It has a 4 patch in the outside corners. Do a search on pinterest and you'll find a lot of blocks......most should be free. 54-40 is an old block and comes from claims of boundaries of the United States.

Tennessee Waltz is just 54-40 or Fight combined with an alternate Snowball block. I was first introduced to in Judy Martin's Scrap Quilts book which really changed my quilting career. I had never seen a scrap quilt I liked prior to it, and now some 30 years later almost all my quilts are scrappy.

I show one of my unfinished tops and tell the story here:

I think this one done by Cattitude is gorgeous! She alternated with 9-patches.

I made the TW King size for my GD and it goes together very well using the rulers.

Tri Rec rulers turn up on my guild's free table a lot. One package of the rulers had a book with with patterns from Darlene Zimmerman, the designer of the rulers, called Quilts to Come Home To that used the rulers. One guild member made every pattern in the book over a year as a free table challenge. She put the book and rulers back on the free table after one year. The quilts were stunning! Forgot to say she made some patterns crib size, not all were large quilts.

I wanted to chuckle when I read your question. I have done the same thing.

There was a mystery quilt that used the Tri Recs ruler that was really nice. It was on FB.

If you think that was the one I can get the link for you.

I did a huge clean up of my sewing room last week and found 2 of her rulers. Have no idea what I bought them for so I'm going to go on her site and find out
