I really love the look of those and am thinking about one for our bed. King size. I'm still a newbie quilter though and am wondering how hard they are to do with the curved seams?

That would be quite a challenge. If you hand stitch I think you would have a better chance of success. much slower but very rewarding. Start with a small doll quilt size and see if you think you could sick it out trough a king size. The way I usually work things like this is to cut your template actual size and then cut your fabric with your seam allowance. Draw the actual size onto the fabric and use those lines to sew.

this is exactly the pattern I'm looking at. I'm not in a hurry to start or finish it....I have other projects going on that need to be done first. I'm just kind of planning ahead.

This sight has them that you do by hand in the English paper piece method. I'm doing a Grandmothers flower garden with her templates.

I've done a wall hanging with this block but I hand pieced. I made a template out of plastic, drew round and cut out all the blocks, eyeballing the seam allowance and marking the centre of the seams then pinned carefully, easing in the curves. I also made a doll quilt recently for the June swap using this block. On both, I did embroidery following the seam lines a bit like on crazy quilting, they are really fun to do and I love the effect of the curves. :D

Good luck! I'd like to try machine piecing this one day but haven't been brave enough to try curves by that method yet. :shock: :D

The curved seams are easy enough but the technique is strange. You have to sew the concave seams from the front side and the convex seams from the otherside. So you are constantly flipping the quilt over and back for EACH applecore...at least that was my experience. Love the quilt, but what a pain!
