Couldn't you take some of the blocks apart to get the lengths that you need to set it on point? They are still done in rows and may just fit where you need them to for other rows.
Timing is everything! I started a D9P this past weekend and already began sewing the blocks together the traditional way. Wish I had waited until this coming weekend to start sewing the blocks so that I could have seen your idea of putting the blocks on point, because that's certainly a stand-out! Now I have to pretend I never saw your quilt or I'll never be happy with mine.
