If you aren't happy with your colors add more colors and make it a scrappy, lots of colors and patterns. Scrappies always look good, you can add a certain color to tie it together.

I start with the patterns basics but often make changes in the quilt as I go. Even with kits! Must admit sometimes its because I made a mistake. But sometimes those turn out the best and most original.

It's definitely not tacky. You have purchased the pattern and it is yours to complete as you wish: different fabrics, different size, different configuration, additional blocks and borders, whatever you like. You can be as creative with the basic pattern as much as you like. Don't forget to post a photo!

One of my projects right now is a chevron quilt made from the same fabric pattern in 10 different colors. So far it looks really sharp. It depends on what you do with it. There are no wrong colors, just colors done wrong. I also have a crazy quilt started using every scrap I have. I think that style of quilt allows for it, though not everyone likes them. Maybe show us a picture of what you're putting together. We give honest opinions.

A lot of times the Fat Quarter bundle is all from the same line of fabric, therefore there will be the same prints in different colors. I love the quilts I've done this with, but I try to not place the same prints (different colors) next to each other. Sometimes that can make me crazy, though. Do what you wish!! It'll be great!

I think that normally when someone says not to use the same print in a different color is when there are only 5 - 6 fabrics in a quilt. I believe that it is quite common when using a large number of fabrics such as a FQ pack, you are going to get the same print in several different colorways.

And it is your quilt, so whatever you like goes - but yes if I have a FQ pack I am using all of the fabrics in it.

Nothing wrong with using the same fabric in different colors. Sometimes it can actually give a cohesiveness to your project.
