The person requesting this quilt has seen it made up by the fabric rep. This person sews and owns the LQS. So, I know it's do-able, just not sure how to do it. I'm thinking wider than 1/4" binding - maybe 1/2", if I have enough fabric. The pattern is called 'Rocky Road' and it's pre-printed cotton fabric for the center and outer border. The pattern is put out by the fabric mfr.

I agree with wider than 1/4". I'd try the 1" that PaperPrincess suggested or maybe 3/4". Make the seam allowance equal to the binding so it lies flat. Otherwise I can visualize it looking rounded like piping with four layers at the seam next to the two at the edge.
