Ok, here goes. I just bought a Prisma 980 as a backup machine, and I am having a heck of a time finding the bobbins. My Sapphire bobbins won't work, they are just a fraction too large to fit the casing, and I don't know where to look for the others. Anybody got a guess? Do I need to look online? Would JoAnn's carry them since they sell the Vikings? HELP.

That's a really old machine. I would check with your local Viking dealer first. Then try the Corporate office at http://www.husqvarnaviking.com/us/406.htm. If they can't help you, try doing a Google search.

I have owned 2 Viking sewing machines and you will not find bobbins to fit any Viking sewing machines at JoAnn's or WalMart.

FYI - JoAnn's does not sell Viking sewing machines. Viking dealers rent space in the JoAnn store to sell the machines. Not all JoAnn stores have dealers in them.

Here's a source for bobbins. Looks like the Prisma is type 2:

You might want to check eBay too.

    Katier825,
Thank you for the link, that was just what I needed. My Sewing Machine Guy said that he likes the 980 even better than my Sapphire, so I sure want to hang onto it for a backup. I have only pieced on it so far, but plan to play around with it as soon as I get a break from making all these cute little baby quilts. Thanx again, you guys always come to the rescue.

I'm happy that you found what you needed! I also have a Sapphire and love it. My previous machine for 16 years or so was a Viking 400. I absoutely loved that machine and it broke my heart when the main board died. I couldn't see putting $300 into such an old machine, especially when they said they couldn't guarantee I'd get new parts. So I bought the Sapphire. I did have a little trouble at first, but I think it was mainly the learning curve. No problems with it now.

Keep eBay in mind too for bobbins. I get them there sometimes.

Thanx once again. I will check out Ebay. Had not even given them a thought. I love my Sapphire. I really don't do a lot of embroidery on the machine, so didn't need all the extra jazz. I got the Prisma, with a huge table, that I can actually pin a King Size quilt on for just $200.00, so I feel like the $60.00 to have it serviced was well worth it. I won't do the quilting on the Prisma, but I do love my Sapphire. Poor thing gets worked to death and runs like a jewel.

I have the Viking 1100, 300 Anniversary edition and it's older also. It will only take the bobbins made for Viking.

How do you like this Viking 980? Someone wants to sell me one - said it was seldom used. I'm leery because if it's an old machine, it'll be hard to find parts. What kind of price did you pay for it?
