    Default Virtual quilting weekend 5/8-5/10/20

Welcome to VQW! What are your quilting plans for the weekend? I will be working on isolation gowns and potholders. Quite a combination! I will probably do another VQW May 22-25 as that is a long weekend here in the US. I look forward for seeing all your projects!

Am presently in a lull so I may pick a pattern from my drawer and start a new project.

I'm in! Made log cabin blocks today to go with red work Santa's that my sister sent--she's a marvelous embroidery artist and I'd sent her a book of Christmas embroider for her birthday, and when she wasn't making masks she "whipped up" a set for both of us--and I am doing the blocks and the quilting. Also I'll finish quilting her "Over the River" quilt and hopefully, start the cutting of a modern "imploding" quilt. weather will be chilly so no temptation to putter in the garden!

I've been sewing like a madwoman this week. Today I finished the last of 200 shoo fly blocks for my Omigosh quilt. This is a 4 1/2 inch finished block so lots of tiny pieces. This is half of the blocks needed, the rest are double 9 patches - five 9 patches in a 9 patch layout. But before I start on those, I am going to make some Farmer's Wife blocks for a sewalong group I am in, so that will be my VQW project.
    Here's my Omigosh blocks...

I was hoping to work in the yard most of the weekend, but the weather doesn't look real promising for that. I also got asked to make another 40 masks for work (as we start bringing more employees back to working on campus). I don't have to use my weekend for that, but if the weather is bad I might as well, and trade that for some sunny hours during the week for outdoor work.

I have been doing a bit of work on a block of the week quilt from last year that turned into a UFO on me, getting done with the last of the pp parts and almost ready to get back to more assembly of the middle section.

I'll be working on a stand mixer cover this weekend. I have everything cut. I haven't been able to work on anything very large for the last few months but I have been having fun making items to decorate my kitchen in navy blue gingham.

I've gotten distracted again by mask making and other things. This week I've been putting together some thrift store tops I've bought and putting them together with backs to give to a beginning long armer for practice pieces.

Today's project maybe should have been done a day or two ago, but I was enjoying some time out of the sewing room. Just a simple small scrappy rail fence top I picked up at the thrift store for I think $1.99, but I decided off with its original border (a 2" flimsy poly blend green solid), it needed another row of blocks, and put on a border. Is funny but I have several of the fabrics including one very noticeable one so I don't think my added blocks will look added. I pulled the fabrics and cut the pieces yesterday, should be fast once I sit down to do it.

Since the last virtual weekend, my vintage machine has returned from the shop and I am again sewing on it instead of my little cheapo Brother. It feels so good to have a sewing machine that stays where I put it instead of chasing that Brother like it was a loose dog!

The Bernina is still in the (other) shop. They just re-opened and say it will be about a month before it will be ready.

I am in again. I have two baby quilts that need to be finished..
    1. Re-layer the bunny quilt and get it quilted!
    2. Make additional little blocks for the turquoise baby quilt. Finish the top and sandwich.
    3. Don't get sidetracked with other projects.
    4. Maybe run the vacuum in the sewing room.
