Virtual Quilting Weekend -- June 30 - July 4, 2017

I usually find out about these after the fact, so I'm glad I found this one early. I have several projects in mind:
Finishing 2 quilt tops from swap blocks, making a wall hanging for myself, and making a triangle frenzy table runner. Four projects -- yikes!

So glad VQW is here again. It is nice to see what's happening with everyone. I will be packing up a wall hanging and a table runner to send out to two swaps, I get the names at midnight tomorrow, and then working on the last row of my clam shell log cabin. I also want to try my hand at doing a curved facing on a small quilt.

I guess I posted this in the wrong forum, so here goes again... I purchased a vintage quilt at a flea market, shown here on my bed. It is full/double size. I am recreating it in a twin size for my daybed. I had my blocks made but today I added the white sashing. Now I have to decide on a color for the vertical sashing and add it. It will either be beige or light country blue to match my room. Its all from stash so not sure if I have enough blue. If not beige wins. The name of the block is The Radio Windmill from 1941. Thanks for VQW; its such an incentive!

I am so happy to join in this time. I have som BOM blocks to finish and also a log cabin quilt to work on. I will post pictures later. Right now I have to get on some housecleaning so I won't feel so guilty when I sit down to sew.
Zozee, so sorry for your loss.
It sounds like you all have some good projects! I can't wait to see what we all accomplish.

I'm in and thanks for hosting again, Raggiemom.
Last night, I sorted through a large tub of fabric donated to my church quilting group. Today, I need to put it in the appropriate color tubs.
I serged 15 baby bibs this morning and want to get 35 more done today. I hosted middle schoolers yesterday for a volunteer event and I thought 60 serged bibs would be enough for the hour and a half. WRONG! Lol! 6 middle schoolers, 1 younger child, and 2 adults put one snap set on each bib for a total of 307 snapped! Thank heavens there were more serged bibs waiting in the warehouse to be snapped! . I need more for next Thursday.
Off to put some shelving in my laundry room and then I will sort, serge, and sew.

These are the placemats I am planning to machine quilt. However I will have to do them later on as Molly Jean thought they look comfortable and decided to sleep directly on top of them. I did get to finish another block for my snowman quilt so the morning was not lost.

Yipee, I remembered in time! So many things I'd like to do this weekend. I finished a quilt on my new longarm this morning. Hopefully I'll get one or two more done before the weekend is over. Then I need to make a quilt for a shop sample (paper piecing, so that will take a while). And I have a Dr. Who quilt I want to make for my sister on my new-to-me 1937 Singer that she gave me for my birthday. Seems like a good exchange - she gives me a machine, and I'll use it to make her a quilt

The fabric on the left is for the shoulder bag, the quilt on the right is the wedding gift. The bride wanted gold, mint, grey and white. I was trying to go for a modern look, and am just not feeling it. However, I will push through. Happy sewing to the rest of you!

Well, so far today I've managed to organize some fabric scraps-- they are measured, folded on the correct comic boards and put in the drawer I've devoted to anything that's over 1/4 yard, but under 1 yard.
I also finally got an art quilt project sandwiched. It was not easy, I decided to do a double batt with W and N on the bottom, and Hobbs Tuscany wool on top. Unfortunately the wool was being very difficult, I first pinned it, since that's how I prefer basting and it's an art quilt, so it won't be washed. But no matter what I did, it looked like there was too much potential for the back to develop a pucker or two, so unpinned, and spray basted. That took care of the potential for puckers, but it took forever, since I kept having to turn the durn thing over, lift fabric and smooth back in place. I've never had such a problem with basting a quilt before-- this is the first time I've used wool as the top layer, but still, must be something in the alignment of the planets...
Next I'm going to decide what threads to use for the next layer of quilting on my UFO that I'm hoping to get finished.

I'm in. I hope to make some 10 1/2" blocks for a quilting bee and do a lot of hand quilting on a queen-size whole cloth quilt for my grandson's wedding. I started this quilt in January and I am only a little over half-way finished because I can't sit too long with my arthritis in my hands and hip. This will be a fun and relaxing weekend. The vacuum and mop can wait until next week. Zozee, I am so sorry for the loss of your mother. You are so smart to not push yourself at this time. Our society wants instant grieving and that's not the way our bodies work.
