Default Walking foot and 1/4 seam

I have a Janome, and can't get a 1/4 seam figured out. The needle on my machine will go over from 3.5 to 7, but in that setting it is too small - moving it back etc. I can't find anyplace on the walking foot to use as a guide. I can't get it set even using tape on the machine. What do you Janome owners do for this? Thanks in advance for your suggestions.

Marking the bed of the machine w/tape or whatever should be the way to mark your seam.....why do you need to use the walking foot to sew the 1/4 seam?

I'm use the walking foot for stitch in the ditch, quilting with diagonal lines etc - don't need 1/4 inch for that, but do for the binding.

Use the edge of the walking foot no matter if it is a little larger then 1/4" it won't make that much difference in sewing on the binding. Having a straight even seam is more important for binding. I have no idea what size it is to the right of my walking foot, I just use the edge to guide me.

I have a Janome machine and have the same trouble when using the even feed foot. One solution is to mark the 1/4" on your quilt - I use Frixion pens - and just follow the line. Another solution is to use the 1/4" masking tape - tiger tape I think it's called. Or you can move the needle as close to 1/4" as you can get it and then go for it.

Depends on the model of your Janome. I have a 6600P and I use the 1/4" acufeed foot and set my needle position at 5.6 to get a 1/4" seam. There are also other acufeed feet available - ditch quilting acufeed and the open toe acufeed. I don't use the acufeed when piecing - I disengage the acufeed and use the regular 1/4" foot. However, when putting on the binding, I do use the acufeed system.

Just worked out this problem. I have a Janome 11000SE. I used one of the metal seam gauges, put it at 1/4"' , set it at the edge of the foot and moved my needle to the right until it lined up. Worked great. Good luck.

I put my add-a-quarter ruler under the foot & move the needle until it is on the line. I have to change my needle position from what the accufeed foot specifies on several of them.

That is exactly what I do. Works for me.
