Miriam I would love to see pictures of this!!!!!!!!
I went a bit more creative. I hung the IKEA rods in the windows for scissors - I have a pretty good collection of old scissors though. Then I hung an old ironing board top I fished out of the neighbor's trash - I pulled the legs off it. It has holes in it for pegs - magnets stick to it. If you mount a piece of wood behind it on 3 sides you can make a pocket to hold the big measuring equipment. Then I hung an old baby bed springs on the wall and clip things to it.

I would also go with the peg board. It might not be the most attractive thing, but as other posters mentioned, you can dress it up with paint and moldings. The benefit of the pegboard is that you are not locked into a specific configuration. You can move stuff around as needed. The only thing to remember when you install it is it can't go right up against the wall. You need to have little spacers so the hooks have somewhere to go.

I used ped board with a frame around it, but before I placed the frame around it I covered it with OLD patterns. All glued on with a finish I could wipe down. Due to the patters having black ink on them, I used black paint on the frame. The patterns give the board an oldfashined twal (sp).

I have peg board like a lot of people. It is painted the wall color. This way it is really east to move them around as I buy new rulers. I do like the rails for scissors etc. I will have to get me some at Ikea.
