Default Well, this is different, part 2...

I put together the pieces I had on my design wall that I posted earlier, and added borders. And I like it. It is really different, but I like it. I guess I have created a modern quilt, right? Somehow I didn't realize that was what I was doing. Guess I wasn't paying attention. I was so busy trying to get the pattern down to a size that was smaller that I was concentrating on that, I guess. The pattern is Study in Black and White by Julie Popa. The pattern is for 108" by 108". I was trying for something closer to 60 x 60, and I ended up with 69 x 73. Close enough.... I probably should have scaled down these large shapes, but that isn't what I wanted to do.

I am going to let it "rest" a day or so while I decide how to quilt it. Anyone got any suggestions? I actually prefer SID, so that is what I am leaning towards. That is not what is suggested on the pattern...

STID would be fine and echo quilting too which would still be straight stitching. Look good!!

Neat top! You could SITD and if you felt it needed more quilting, I think the FMQ "ribbon candy" quilt pattern would look good worked in between the lines.

If STID is what you are comfortable with, then go with it. To this point the quilt looks lovely (and that's from a non purple family quilter). If you decide later, you want to add to the quilting, I've heard that's done as well. It's your quilt and your choices. Congratulations on working through the problems you have had. They will make the finished quilt even more special. Joyce in DE

Well, normally he is front center and smiling, but I am not sure he approves of this quilt.

All of those white channels between the purples... I'd have to go nuts with some FMQ in those spaces, if it were me...

I understand. In fact, that is what the pattern suggests. Just not sure it is for me...

Yes, I agree. It is a modern quilt! It's quite lovely. I think you need to do more than SITD though. There will be too much empty space in the white along the edges. But I do love your quilt and I love your cat. I think he was having a 'bad hair' day and didn't want to be photographed. JMHO! lol

I think Hot Rod is just showing us that his back is as nice as his front!

Congrats on a pretty quilt.
