Well, I went to our Wal Mart for fabric

DD and I are both off for the holiday, so we decided to drive to some other towns to shop for fabric. Not much open on Sunday, so I called all the Wal Marts around us (within an hour) to see if they had fabric. Most didn't, so I called our local one that is "supposed" to be getting fabric back in.
YES! They had it in!! YES! They have quilt fabric! *note to self - NEVER ask a male store associate if they have quilt fabric*.
When we got there, I almost cried. The new department is about 1/3 the size of the old one, and they had maybe 25 bolts of fabric out. ALL of it was sleazy, cheap, rough feeling stuff with a waxy coating on it. Or gauzy polyester carp that maybe you might want for a Halloween costume. That's the only use I can think of for that stuff.
On the upside - there were lots of empty shelves, and we were told they are slowing putting out fabric on the night shift. So maybe all is not lost. Another good thing - they had lots of thread, bobbins, etc. But those are the only nice things I can think to say about something that we have been looking forward to for months and months. :(
My daughter did buy a bundle of batik fat quarters, and she says they are as nice as what she has been buying at the LQS.
Keeping my fingers crossed that things improve. Would be nice to have another alternative in this town besides Hobby Lobby.

Ok, maybe the fabric still isn't so good. But, and might I mention, the Walmart near me still doesn't have any fabric to speak of. But what they did have was the pillow stuffing that I love. Yippie!!! I had been on line to find it to no avail and now it's back....Winner Winner!

Same thing at my WalMart - but they did get in a few bolts of flannel and are getting some fleece. They had a huge bolt of 100% cotton terry cloth and the "old" fabric lady said that they never even carried it before when they had fabric. So, who knows what they will get eventually.

Same thing at my local Walmart and one near my friend in AZ. The department is cut down to 1/3 its original size, with only one rack, a small cutting table, and a two sided shelf behind the cutting table.... and what a MESS!! The place has no order whatsoever. I'm discouraged. :-(

I feel really bad for all of you. My local Wal-Mart always kept the fabric department, although it had gotten really small for a while there. Now we have tons of fabric and a lot of it is really nice. I bought some double-wide muslin there yesterday, washed it today, and it appears to be of reasonably good quality. They even had TWO people working in the fabric and craft department yesterday....must have been a full moon or something, because that never happens!

Heard that fabric was back in a Walmart store near us, and were so happy to hear it. Daughter and I drove over there Saturday, sure enough it was back, and was nice, although about a third as large as it was before. We gathered up several bolts of fabric, went to the cutting table, and no one was there. There wasn't a bell to ring either. We waited about 15 minutes, then daughter went to see if she could find someone to cut. She came back and said they were sending someone. We waited another 10 minutes, no one ever came. We couldn't wait any longer, so had to leave without our fabric. This wasn't at night either. Hope this isn't going to be a common happening. Never happened in the old fabric department.
