I have to agree with what the majority of the ladies have posted, although I have NO KNOWLEDGE of a longarm. Something just doesn't smell right about this machine. For that amount of money, the machine should do everything except wash the dishes! LOL! I'm sorry, but I am very wary of the situation you have described. If I were you, I would want to know WHY she wants to sell it! Okay, with my lack of experience, I'll say no more because I wouldn't want to give bad advice I'm not qualified to give!

I am pretty sure that the Baby lock machine is made by Tin Lizzie. If the local tech is only familiar with babylock, this causes issues. I purchased the same machine branded by Viking. I had lots of issues and the tech was good with the mechanical sewing machine stuff, but not the electronics. Tin Lizzie was no help. I finally traded it in and purchased a machine from a company that only makes Long Arms. Much happier.

Is there only 1 babylock tech nearby or also handiquilter because it is made by handiquilter and I would imagine they could also service the machine since it is the same as the avante. Maybe they have a more knowledgable tech. If she has been doing it professionally and really knows the machine than I would think it may need to be serviced with those constant problems, but you need a knowledgable tech or there is no point in investing in a machine you can't have serviced well

For $10,000, I'd keep looking. Someone else suggested an 18" Innova and I second that emotion! You should be able to get one brand-new, with the frame, warranty, training, etc. for that price. You won't get the computerized option (that's additional cost) - but you will get superb customer support. Good luck with whatever you decide to do...that's a huge investment.....so take your time. (Make sure YOU can operate it).

I'll put in my 2 cents worth, although I don't have a longarm(yet), but I agree with everyone else who has commented. When I have the room for a longarm, I'll be getting a Bailey, which has a pretty good reputation, and a heck of a lot less money than $10K.

Since you are asking for others' thoughts, you already know it is not something for you. When I am spending that much money I need to feel good about the idea right away. And it does not sound like you do. So pass - something better will come along.

Totally agree. I would get my quilt off that frame asap and run as fast as I could. Like others have stated for that price I'm sure there is a much nicer one that comes with classes.
