I was unhappy with my results the first few times. But it is practice, practice & more of it. I took scrap fabric put it together the size of placemats to use for the practice items. I just have a problem with throughing out may practice items. I have gotten happy with the results now after alot of the practice.

I have definitely improved with my machine quilting. I prefer using the wiggly stitch down the ditches rather than a straight stitch, I can never keep a straight stitch right in the ditch. The stitch that makes an undulating line from one side of the ditch to the other ends up looking better for me.

I hand quilt and each quilt seems to have smaller stitches. I know it's from practice, practice, practice. I'm happy with my first quilt but happier with the next ones.

I started out 46-47 years ago hand quilting, the last 10-12 years have been doing a large stipple. Neither was very good first attemps, but I was thrilled to just be able to do it. I did get better with each new quilt and Love the FMQ the best.

I made my first quilt in 2000, then stopped until 2010. I stitched in the ditch on that quilt and have to say am pleased when I look at it but I used monofilament. I just finished a quilt (my 2nd full finish since coming back to quilting) and stitched in most ditches, then did a pattern on the outer border.

I found that using a well matched thread hid most of the imperfections. And I went slowly.

I was not all that happy with my first attempts at quilting, but got over it because the quilt was finished. Each quilt got better and better. In fact, I still seem to progress some with each quilt or at least learn a little something. Keep going--you'll be surprised how quickly you'll get better.

My first quilt is in a land fill somewhere.. as probably a few more after that... Having the right tools, the right practice , and the patience will pay off.

I was extremely pleased with my first attempt at quilting. I didn't have time to practice, so having made an antique teddy bear baby quilt, I did meandering all around the bears. It came out totally awesome & everyone loved it & wanted one. It was amazing.

ALWAYS REMEMBER, we did all make a first quilt. Only a few quilters had "almost perfect" quilts. Just keep sewing and quilting

Wow! Doing something like that would be great for me as I can't keep a straight line either. By some strange quirk, I took to FMQ like a duck to water and by the end of my first try could write my name. Don't know why I find straight lines so hard - and as for points........
