What do you call these units?

(When someone says HST or Flying Geese, we usually are more or less in agreement as to what is meant. I am wondering what the "usually used" terms are.)

Doreen Speckmann called Figure A "Peaky and Spike"

A is triangle in a square; I've seen B called both half-square rectangle and half-rectangle triangle. I don't know the other two.

I have always referred to A as a Tri-Rec. After the rulers commonly sold to make the unit. I have also seen it referred to as a Tri Rec in books. Assuming it was always short for Triangle Rectangle units.

A: Tri-Rec, Triangle in a Square or Peaky & Spike
B: Half Rectangle Triangle, as long as the finished rectangle is 1:2 ratio (example: 3"X6" or 4"X8")
    C & D, no idea.

Silly me, I never called them anything, except "cut 4 A units an 6 B units".

But what if you were trying to explain the unit to somebody on a quilting forum? I suspect you would come up with some sort of description other than "A Unit", especially in a patchwork piece that is so commonly used in so many quilting patterns. That particular unit is used in Tennessee Waltz, 54-40 or Fight and Storm at Sea to name a few. I think that is what Bear was trying to do, find the most commonly used name for the units for purposes of communicating about them without having (or without being able) to attach a picture. A lot of our members have problems with inserting pictures or drawings into their posts.
