Quote: I am in the process of using corduroy in my Project Linus quilts. I am searching out small pieces of any washable (preferably cotton) with different "feels" or textures for kids who are blind or bedridden. A quilt made this way adds another sensory dimension to people stuck in bed or who couldn't "see" how their quilt looks otherwise. I have plenty of corduroy but suggest you think in this direction in using yours.
I watched Sewing With Nancy a few days ago, she was constructing a quilt in columns, rather than blocks. She commented that the way she was incorporating doubled, folded fabric, and adding corduroy and satin, would be a way to make it interesting for kids

I saw this program and thought how unique of an idea

i found a couple of cord skirts with beautiful floral patterns at a thrift store, i made just a simple quilt, just blocks, bigger than a lap quilt smaller than a twin bed, i just added cotton velveteen for contrast. i wash it on gentle, partially dry flat, then hang over the shower rod to finish drying, i backed it with a very quiet floral cotton that blends, edged it with a cotton sateen so i could have a contrast with the cord vs sheen. it looks pretty and when it was cold it was nice to curl up under.

Years ago my DM made a bow tie quilt out of green and red cordoroy (not christmas fabric). The quilt was beautiful. I don't know what she used for backing or batting but the quilt was not heavy. It was a very light weight and beautiful quilt. It seems like maybe the quilt was probably tied rather than quilted. I definately would prewash and dry before sewing. Please show pics of the finished project.

Corderoy is great for overalls. If the fabric is soft enough, they are wonderful for chilly days and oh so comfortable.

I cannot add too many suggestions as most of them have been posted already. I LOVE green and never met a green I didn't like until a non quilting buddy gave me a ton of this putrid, olivey nasty green. I cut some squares of it and put it in a "feely" top. I make them for disabled children. I use lots of different materials, but only in squares, no bias or fun patterns. That way, the kids run their hands over the top and they feel different. It can help children with some sensory problems to calm down.

I used the rest as backing for some flower shaped pincushions I made. I found that the pin cushions slide around the table a LOT less if there is corduroy on the back.

I use corduroy for appliques, especially animals, in picnic quilts, pin cushions, and clothes for dolls I make for charity.

Quote: I got some cordoroy fabric at an estate sale, most in 3 yard increments. I was thinking, what can it be used for? Backing for quilt? Just seems so heavy after the cotton we normally work on, and I have about 5 pieces of it, all solids. Any suggestions would be nice
Makes great pillows to sell in fundraisers! You can piece a block out of your various colors, for the fronts.
