i prefer silence. my silence here is comprised of the sounds of winds, birdsong at deck feeder. but if i am into music for mood lift on too quiet day it will be mix of native american -flute usually- & celtic -quit instrumentals mixed w maybe some loreena mckinnet ..i love blending sounds, like blending fabrics.

The TV show Friends and to lots of rock and roll--vintage stuff like Eric Clapton, Allman Brothers, Steve Winwood, the Doobie Brothers, etc.
My son also loaded an AC/DC song onto my iPod and it's pretty good when machine quilting!

My sewing machine has to be set up in the kitchen so I usually listen to heavy metal (Cage 9, Arctic Monkeys) or 70's (3 Dog Night, Eagles). If it's not music then I have a Playaway (audiobook that is like an ipod) from the library. I don't need to have anything but I really don't like listening to the dishwasher while I sew. lol

I bring my iPad to my sewing machine and watch/listen to The Quilt Show http://www.thequiltshow.com/os/index.php
It is a wonderful value since I can watch new and old episodes going back to their beginning. There is so much variety in all of the quilting stars they bring on their show.
