What is a mottled fabric?

I think of mottled as irregularly splotchy,

Very pretty fabric. It's not mottled though. It would make a nice quilt.

the Marbles fabric is what came to my mind for mottled.

I agree with Moda Marbles being a more mottled look :D:D:D
