I would file a complaint, the son may have no idea if your machine was fixed or not, and Ebay would look into it for you. $135.00 on anything that you don't get what you wanted is not fair. It could just be a mistake. Lets hope so anyway.

You only have the word of an email from his "son" that he has been ill. Maybe he has, maybe he hasn't. Maybe he fell on hard times himself or damaged your machine or didn't have one to send you. You don't really know. I hope he is okay, but with online transactions, you need to protect yourself first. Especially if no one will return a phone call or email.
I agree with this 100%, even though I would like to think everyone is honest, you never know if other people have had the same problem and just don't want to rock the boat. Better safe than sorry.

He's not dead so he can answer a simple question of Dad, which machine do I send to this lady? Using a medical is not acceptable when it comes to business, it's unfortunate but not an excuse to fleece customers so don't feel bad about wanting what you paid for.

Personally, I'd call eBay and try to get my original machine back. It sounds like he traded you down. Money is money, and business is business; insist on what you want. Also contact PayPal and tell them that this happened and can you get your money back. At least the seller should offer you PayPal credit and your machine back. Did he have good feedback on eBay?
This may sound cold hearted, but I don't necessarily believe all the stories I've received about heart attacks, grandmother in hospital, etc. etc.

Yes, same man. Like I said, you'd think I would have learned my lesson but he did quickly rectify the problem with the Featherweight so we thought we'd give him a chance to fix this machine I found

Now I may be out the $138, thought it was only $135 but upon checking the transaction I realized it was more.

I felt bad about filing a complaint until I received all your comments. He still has listings on EBay and I feel badly for people who order through that site right now. We went to him directly since I had his website so EBay wouldn't be able to help although he does list "refurbished machines" for $125 on there.

Thanks again folks. Live and learn I guess but at my age you would think I'd know better.
I know you get to rate sellers as well, please post your experience with this purchase on e-bay. Sorry for all your trouble!

I would immediately file an official complaint with eBay. They can generally get a quick response and settlement. Who could afford that kind of a loss. Hope it works out well for you.

I'm sure no one will see this but Ebay won't do anything-it wasn't through ebay at all. It was someone she bought from in the past but this time the transaction was completely OFF ebay. Paypal and her cc company (if she used a cc) are the only ones who can help at this point.
