Default What size embroidery needle to use

I am putting machine embroidery on microsuede and am having problems with the thread (Floriani) splitting and fraying and also with thread nests. I am using a size 14 machine embroidery needle.....do I need a different size needle, or do you have other suggestions. I am using a medium weight tear away stabilizer and hooping the stabilizer only.
Thank you for your help.

Have you stitched that design before on woven fabric? The microsuede has a little nap doesn't it? What about a water soluable stabilizer on the top, you could just peal it away especially if it is old and dryed out. Are you using a new needle? calla

Needle is not always new. I am making about 75 drawstring bags/month and embroidering the name of a hospital on them. Thanks for your reply.

You could try using a #14 sharp. Embroidery needles are similar to universal sewing needles in that they have a slightly rounded tip. I've had almost no stitch issues with my machines since I started using Organ sharps.

I agree that you should try sharps. I was recently experiencing lots of problems which were all resolved by using size 14 microtex needles.
