No, it's not you. I have the same problem. When I first started quilting I was told to check out yard sales for fabric. Well, I found a yard sale with quilting fabric in the large storage bins for $5.00 each. I bought all 4 bins. To this day, I think I may have only used a quarter of one bin. Nothing seems to go with whatever I'm making either.

I look on extra stash as challenges. Cut them in strips and squares for scrappy quilts. Make walker bags and adult bibs for the nursing home. I think the saying goes, She who dies with the most stash didn't sew fast enough.

I use fabrics from my stash quite often, only buy a few new ones to go with what I've got.

A stash is good for using what you have and not paying the rising prices for yards of cotton fabric. If I buy, it's for a yard or two to go with what I have. They're saying it's popping to $14 a yd this fall. So glad I have a large stash.

I use my stash to make my quilts all the time, but, I do have a large stash. There is no quilt shop close to me, so over the years whenever I am in a city with fabric, I buy some fabric. It doesn't matter if I have a project in mind,if I like it I will buy some. Since my income has drastically been reduced since I lost my job do to disability. I am so darn glad I have my stash to pull my fabrics from. I can still quilt, I had even stocked up on batting, rulers, etc. So now I can still indulge in my hobby, which isn't cheap.

i find a stash to be absolutely useless. all my fabric are in plastic cartons, labeled w/the color inside. great so far. however, they are stacked 5 high and 3 wide. inevitably, what i'm looking for is always in the bottom carton. they are so heavy at this point, i just hate looking thru the fabric. i'd rather go to the store and buy what i need when i need it than to rummage thru these crates.

I love having a stash. I make a lot of controlled scrappy quilts. My friends have given me many beautiful pieces of fabric. They love seeing them used in my quilts & I love having their gorgeous scraps to make into more beautiful items. I don't need to buy a lot of fabric unless I need something special for a project. It really helps & gives me lots of options!
