I love purples, blues and green combinations. I also do alot of scrap quilts and I like bright colors. I made a pinwheel quilt for my oldest nephew. I took bright scraps and made the pinwheels on a white tonal background. IMHO, it turned out to be a very bright, happy quilt. Just my thoughts. Have fun and Happy Easter to you and yours.

If someone asked me, I'd say brights are my favorite but then I ran across this one http://www.keepsakequilting.com/productdetail/5406.htm# and I really love it. So I guess I like a bit of everything.

What are the school colors. That is where I would start.

What are your daughter's favorite colors? What are the school colors? Her high school's colors?

A really good scrappy quilt has hundreds of colors.

Here are a few scrappy quilts I've done. The large flower center was one I sent off to a Round Robin and the photo is of the second border just before it was put on. The quilt is absolute gorgeous but I haven't gotten it back from the longarmer. The heart quilt was my oldest great-grand's first grownup size quilt. She loves pink (obviously).

Teals, browns, ecru, peach or rust and blues. Those are the colors I seek most often. I also use a lot of bright "true" colors..red, yellow, green, blue and purple.

what are your daughters favorite colors?? Maybe you can use them.
(My opinion)If the walls are really bright white I would use lots of tropicals or brights to keep the room fresh and lively. A dorm room needs to keep kids happy, college can be stressful at times. I had recently painted my rooms downstairs, and am now working on the upstairs this year. It was a big deal to me cus I dont what to do this again and the next home owner can do it, lol. So.... I picked up tons and tons of paint chip cards from the box stores to settle on colors that went well together.
I kept the cards, I hate to throw anything away if I can find a use for it. I found there were color families I love and some I really dont care for - and my fabrics show this too.
These cards have colors that are well matched and easy to carry to a fabric store to match fabrics. Also, if you do paint a room you can take these cards to the fabric store to match or contrast fabrics really well to room color.
make a color wheel, or find one online and start from there to match colors. This is the part I love the best when quilting, pulling the colors. sharet

Purple, lavender & green. Purple, lavender & yellow. Blue, lavender & yellow.

A scrap quilt would be fun and pretty too. I love scrap quilts.
I think color selection is hard for a lot of new quilters (it was for me.) In time it gets easier.
