I'm referring to foundation piecing. The type of piecing where you sew your fabrics onto paper, as in string quilts, etc. sorry if I used the wrong term there.

Phone books. Free, and they put too many on my front steps. I used to to toss them in the recycle until I heard about using them for foundation piecing. Being that I am a true scrapper, I am frugal. Eventually, there will be no more phone books, or, so few, you will have to to order them. Not me.

I use Carol Doak's paper for paper piecing and for foundation piecing I am using used dryer sheets. They can stay in, smell nice and are kept out of the garbage. I am using them for a crazy quilt right now. I mentioned it at my sewing group and several people have started using it also and others have been bringing in plastic bags full to those using them. I won't run out any time soon.

I use news print which my local newspaper will give free the ends of rolls which they cannot use on the presses. It tears away easily.

I bought 2 reams (8 1/2 x 11") at Dick Blick on line. The shipping was the same for two as for one. I use it for paper piecing - works great and goes through my printer just fine.
