I called it material because that is what it was always called when I was growing up and learning to quilt. Also Muslin was called domestic and I still like that term but oh well.....I still find it hard to throw away the cereal boxes sometimes because you never know when you will need to cut a pattern er...template. teheee.

When I was young, we called it yardage. I still call it that sometimes, but usually fabric. After all, it is the material we use measured in yardage and we store it in our fabric collection / stash.

Your so funny. I like the way your mind works. You make me giggle some times. I like to read your posts and responses, I enjoy them. You get down to the basics. Okay, you have convinced me. For me, fabric it is. :)

I'm not sure I thought about the difference, but I think I say fabric.

Yeah, we used to call it material, too. There's a store in the area called "Material girls" so I guess they do too! But I call it fabric now. Not sure why.

Regional variations and the richness of the English language. We all refer to candy, right? Only in NE England was that common usage, as far as I know. In the rest of the country they refer to sweets. "A rose by any other name....." We all know what we mean and we'll be sure to find what we need, even if we need a translator!
