I think of material for clothes, and fabric for projects, like quilts.

A million years ago when I was in high school, my Home Ec. teacher told us it was fabric. The other things we used were materials. So I have always said fabric.

I like the sound of the word fabric better then material when spoken. It's like someone who pronounces de on the week names instead of day, day sounds so much prettier.

I don't remember my mom every saying Fabric. It was alway material. I think it may also be a regional thing, like coke or soda and my cousin's pop.

Material here in my part of the world. Fabric now because I quilt.

Oh by the way, speaking of regional differences, how many of you drink water from a bubbler?

when i went to sewing school- we were taught that fabric is just one of the materials you use to sew something- other materials are---thread- needles, scissors, ect...
cloth and fabric are the same thing- materials could be refering to just about anything-
when the contractors built our deck they used materials---no fabrics though :)
