A walking foot is also essential when working with velvets!

I am working on my first quilt and, of course, I am relatively ignorant. However, I went on to eBay and found a walking foot for my Singer Stylist 538. I have been able to put a particular machine's name into the search box on e-Bay and had machines and parts of that particular model come up. I am sure that wouldn't work on just any machine at any given time, however, you can always look through the Singers - although that might be a long search.

They sometimes call it an "even-feed foot".

Sometimes they are called "dangerous." Yesterday my DH walked into the room, I turned to look at him and yup..got my finger between the walking foot and the rest of the needle apparatus. Nice moon shaped cut. Lesson learned: Take your foot off the foot control before you turn around to talk to someone.

OUCH!! I once managed to sew through my finger. It was a long time ago and I'm still not sure how I managed it,but I made sure it NEVER happened again!

A walking foot is great to use when sewing binding onto the quilt. It holds the quilt straight. I did not use mine for a long time but after using it once, I now do not do without it.

Get the walking foot. You will be better satisfied with your quilting. Same for darning foot.
Some say you don't need them but less frustration is worth getting them.

But my question is can I get a generic walking food for my machine?
I bought one about 26 years ago that worked with my Simplicity machine & my kenmore. I needed it for sewing a leather vest. I believe it is a generic one.
