I have to agree with everyone. The cost of any quilt should reflect the tremendous time you are going to put into its construction. Picking materials is easy compared to pieceing it together to make something good looking. You need to talk more about how she wants it bound, show her yor quilting designs. My base price for a full quilt is 250.00 plus materials. The quilting designing, is extra and I charge for my time and threads. You use a lot of thread. Think about what you went through in your other projects, and be confident, you are worth a good price for your work.

I made a quilt for a friend, charged her $125.00. After many, many hours and completion my long arm quilter told me I had given it away. Should have charged $1,200-$1,500 for the quilt. Not sure I'll make one again to sell.

The only thing I machine quilt is T-shirt quilts. It has been my experience that most people who want a quilt made from scratch are not willing to pay for my time or expertise. Since the advent of the long arm machines my handquilting business has disappeared. My best customer was a lady who ran a custom framing business and recognized the value of handquilting. She had a collection of tops left by her grandmother which a quilted and finished for her. She and I talked about the fact that folks in our area would not pay for the work either of us did. Her customers all came from the D.C. Metro area.
