I have been doing embroidery for years. Before you buy any set of designs, always try one of their sample designs before you buy. Sometimes the density is just too thick, and other times it's too sparse. When you watch the design stitch out, sometimes, there are many unnecessary jumps, and you will say to yourself, what were they thinking.

There are two types of Machine embroiderers, those who test designs, and those who wished they did.

If you type in a search 'free embroidery designs', you can find a group of companies where the embroidery is free. You can stitch a pattern and see is you like the digitizing. When I download a pattern I start a file folder with the Company name. This way I won't repeat downloading a pattern, know if I like the digitizing and exactly what company has the pattern.

Two places you want to check out: Embroidery Billboard and Oregon Patchworks. They each sponsor a whole slew of digitizers ... you can see a their designs and, if you join Embroidery Billboard and Oregon Patchworks, can download many samples. While you are checking out those embroidery designs, you will get opportunities to join different Yahoo groups. As a Yahoo group member, you can take advantage of free designs. Eventually, you will accumulate more freebies than you can ever use and you will know whose work you like. I buy from Embroidery Library; the variety is vast; the designs are wonderful and the weekly sales and special promotions are unbeatable.
