Default A whole pint of buttons!

I just started cutting my husband's dress shirts for a quilt. I removed the buttons and set them aside. As my husband is 6'5" tall and I had 28 shirts, I filled an entire pint sized jar with the buttons.

I think I am going to use the "floating stars" pattern. The shirts are white, off white, yellow, green, gray, light and dark blue and white with pinstripes. (see picture below) I was considering using pink as the main fabric and the shirts as the corners. How does that sound?

I just love the buttons in the jar. I like finding them in sales and such. Your project sounds fun. I just watched a tutorial on cutting dress shirts up for quilt pieces. Very cool. Teresa

He just changed jobs and is returning to suit and ties... he cleaned out his closet and got rid of the 28 shirts that I grabbed, 3 garbage bags of clothes that I am going to try to sell at a garage sale and 4 garbage bags of junk and he still isn't done cleaning! He just bought a pile of new work clothes and he is getting rid of the old stuff that is worn/torn/out of style or just doesn't fit right anymore. He knows I am making the quilt. He wasn't sure it was worth the work to cut up the shirts until I told him how much quilting fabric costs.

This is a great idea! The fabrics look wonderful together. Will you incorporate some of the buttons when you're finished?

are you going with all 100% cotton? Usually the lighter the color, the more of a mix it will be. THey do that so they are easy to get clean!
which is sad, because they make the best backgrounds!
I have over 200 shirts to cut up...it was to be a winter project, but it never got WINTER here!

Keep us posted on your progress!

Your project sounds like a winner to me and I love your jar of buttons. It will look great on a shelf or table in your sewing area.

All shirts are 100% cotton. I tried to make one of these shirt quilts before and material is more difficult to work with so I am going to try with a mix of quilters fabric and shirts. Not sure how I will use the buttons yet.
