I love doing the binding by hand while sitting with my husband and reconnecting with all the quilters who have quilted before me... I love the journey... making a quilt is a wonderful journey for me.. enjoy the steps and appreciate the work you have done for this (THIS) quilt..whether it is for yourself or for someone else it is a work of love...
hugs

I mostly do large bed quilts so I really prefer to do those by machine because it takes forever by hand. If I'm doing a WH or up to twin then I may do it by hand, but I've never sewn it to the front.

Ditto exactly what Hopetoquilt said!

I prefer to hand stitch the binding too. I get better control of my stitching and I enjoy doing it. If you like the look of machine stitched binding, by all means do it on the machine. I just prefer hand stitching.

I don't like to hand bind in the back, but I do because it looks nicer than machine binding. Haven't tried the stitch in the ditch from the front. May have to try that on a quilt that I donate.

I learned that you were suppose to hand stitch your bindings. Then I saw a lot of people were machine stitching theirs. So, I decided to try it. Wasn't overly satisfied at first but the more practice I got the better I liked it. I just entered a quilt in a quilt show, and I did hand stitch that one. I think it was the first one I've hand stitched in 2 - 3 years.

I sew my binding by hand on the back. Just something I like to do. I do not care for the binding being sewn on the front. Just my own likes.

Why do some folks make cakes/muffins, etc from scratch rather than from a mix.
