Mainstream is far too crowded for my little boat anyway. I'll use the side channels.

You can make beautiful quilts without being showy! I look at the technically challenging and perfect quilts and while they are beautiful they don't warm my heart in the same way as a bunch of meaningful scraps sewn together for a loved one or a friend. There are many many patterns out there that are simple but glorious when put with beautiful fabric!

Onebyone, This sounds interesting. When you use 4" binding, how big a seam do you make? Does the batting fill the binding?

i make it all look so easy. you are only putting 2 layers of fabric under the needle at a time, and even curves are the straight piece under the needle, it's it before and after that is curved. If you look at it that way, it's all easy.
i was quilting before i knew it was quilting. i started at 7 with my grandmas scraps. I was doing yo yos as my grandma taught me and sewing squares together. it was all easy then.
Love this good attitude towards your quilting lynnie, post #34. I am self taught and never knew I couldn't do it or got any information that something was hard, like curves. I just did it. I don't think I ever made a quilt I didn't like.

I still can't get seams to play nice all the time and my seam ripper is always warm, and I say so what. In the end, I have created something wonderful, IMHO. If no one else likes it I don't care.

May we all find ways to enjoy our craft more in the new year.
peace

In addition I feel like I have learned by my mistakes and hopefully the next quilt will be better - in fact I know it will.
I'm sure it will be appreciated in spite of the mistakes. Great friend you have there....(not)!

Me too. No bunching, no problems and fast to cut.

I have been making quilts for lots of years. Back then I hand quilted, made a quilt a year or two. Started machine quilting about 14 years ago. I can really churn them out now. I am always looking for faster, easier and better ways of doing things. I am very critical of my work. If they turn out really nice I am happy, if not, I'am not happy. Very hard to please me. I donate or give away most of my quilts. You must do whatever makes you happy. There are no absolute ways of doing anything.

Who says your binding strip has to be 2.5"? Make it wider to suite how you do your binding & to satisfy yourself....there is only one absolute for me & that is a 1/4" seam 🙂
