Default Will Elmers School glue work with hand quilting?

I hope to start hand quilting a quilt soon. If I use the Elmers, will it be hard to hand quilt? I am a complete novice when it comes to hand quilting.

Honestly, I love using glue to match seams but I would not do it on a top I planned to hand quilt. The glue hardens, which would make pushing a needle through it difficult. The only way you could use it is if your quilting plan never goes over a seam that requires matching -- and that is possible if you are going to hand quilt 1/4" away from each seam, which is a traditional method of hand quilting. If you need to hand quilt across seams, I would stay away from glue.

I don't use it but thought the glue was used for applique. Didn't know it was used to layer a quilt.

One way to find out is to make a small quilt sandwich with glue and try a few stitches.
You might try thinning the glue with water. It won't be as stiff.

I glue basted a table runner and got the glue a bit close to the edge. Just sewing the binding on in places where the glue was was really hard to do. I definitely wouldn't glue baste a quilt I was going to hand quilt.

Im new to quilting but I have used it on some squares for a rag quilt and used only little dots. I found the spots where the dots were I had to stab stitch through but it was manageable. Not sure how it would be doing a larger area.

I had the same problem as Scissor Queen. I just finished a quilt that I glue basted. I had some glue areas near the edge. In hand-sewing the binding to the back those glue areas were very difficult to sew.

Oh yeah, BTW if you have needle down on your machine, don't use it at the corners
when using Elmer's otherwise you will hear a big thump and can also break your needle.
Ask me how I know.
