Tiffany wow 76! What a great achievement to have started so many projects, you should be proud of yourself (no, I'm not being sarcastic - I really mean it :D )

Gail - my DH works away 2 or 3 days a week and my kids are at school 4 days from 8.40am til 4.40pm so I fit in around them all! When Hans is away, I sew all evening. Even when he's here, I sit with him on the couch and hand sew - he likes TV, I'm not keen so this way we're both happy! Also depends on the weather - at this time of year, if it's fine, I garden; Today it's raining so I'm sewing! :D I'm lucky that unlike some ladies, I don't have a day job!

K x

PS Also, I'm not the world's best housewife! As long as the kitchen and bathroom are clean and everyone has good food and clean clothes - I figure my job is done! :D
K, You're my kind of gal. I'm not much on housework either (Even though I have a degree in Home Economics -- Isn't that a riot?!! ) But I think I got more sewing done when I worked because I had to plan the time. There were times that I sewed all night on costumes, prom dresses, new holiday outfits, etc. Now that I'm retired (it's not a new thing...I've been retired since '98  ), I just go with the flow. When the phone rings and someone on the other end of the line asks, "What are you doing?" I ask, "Why?" So often I drop what I'm doing and do other things. I can't sew at night like I used to... the eyes, you know. I need a better lighting system around my machine. In a nutshell, I need to get better organized. I keep buying more fabric and sewing less. Hmm, there's a lesson in there somewhere. Right???? OK, now that I've aired my dirty laundry....................

I only have a few in progress and that is because I dont like them.
Most of my projects get finished because I cant wait to see how they look done.
I also keep buying more fabric and sew less. Cant pass up a sale.

I feel guilty sometimes when people ask what are you doing and I have to say sewing - why is that, We're doing something constructive, right?! :D

I had a friend who once said, "Even if I never use it, it's such a bargain." teeheehee

Yes, I don't know why I feel guilty when I say I'm sewing. To non-sewers, that is probably a waste of time (like "What are you doing?" "Oh I'm watching TV.")

I do very little just watching TV. I usually have it on and I "listen" to movies. Actually, my little TV is BEHIND me when I'm sewing. Sometimes I swivel around when I pin or hand stitch or un-sew (GRRHRR)

76?!?

Dude... you're my hero! lol

I'm thinking to myself "no way in hell I'm listing mine, I'm too embarassed". But now, I might just do it. lol

It would be a really good way to get organised and get a handle on what I have going.

I'm envious of k3n not having to work, and GailG being retired. I have wonderful fantasys of how much sewing I would get done. Truth is, when I have a day off I tend to waddle around and not really achieve anything!

I'm an interior painter, but generally work school hours. The afternoons after school are taken up with washing, kids sports, etc. And I sew in the evenings after dinner. Not every day though, sometimes it's nice to just sit and watch tv with my partner.

I'm inspired now, going to go and make a list of my wips.

You hit the nail on the head when you said that it is your fantasy to get a lot of sewing done after retirement. HA! It hasn't worked that way with me. People find out that you're retired and the phone begins to ring for you to volunteer your time for this and that. You want to do it, or you don't want to say NO, so you put it on your calendar. Then the kids need you for baby-sitting, driving the kids to the dr., to dancing, to school activities (because their parents are still working).

When I retired, I became a tour guide at a historical site in a nearby town (one where I had taken my students on field trips every year), I began teaching catechism at night, tutoring after school, etc. etc etc. I took classes here and there and got involved in quilting. The rest is history -- I don't have time to do enough. Before I retired, I boasted about the things that I was going to do once I "was at home."   Retirement is great. At least I know that I can say NO if I want to say NO. But usually I don't want to say NO. What I have done is this: I have a calendar next to my phone. If I write something in the box for that date, I don't add anything else. If someone calls, I just say, "Oh, I'm sorry I have something else scheduled for that day. The caller doesn't need to know that I have only one thing scheduled. Maybe I should write SEW or QUILT in some of those boxes.

That's a mighty fine idea! I like the "one thing a day" idea too... we need to implement that in our household. The weekend arrives and we have so many things booked to do that by the time Monday morning rolls around again we're exhausted!

Yes, that is one thing I try to stick to. Even if whatever is on the calendar is early in the morning. I still do only one "obligation" per day.

The only thing that isn't working is that I've been writing "line dancing" every Tues. and Thurs. for quite a while, and I still have not gone. :?

OK, THIS IS EXAMPLE #1 (going to show you something, lol)

#2 - K said: I feel guilty sometimes when people ask what are you doing and I have to say sewing - why is that, We're doing something constructive, right?!

Ok, here's my point, lol. Showing you how two ppl, (or more), can look at the same thing, differently.
About the other post...no sorries,...that's not why I mentioned it, just thought I would let you know where all my 'stuff' is...you know me, if I tried to put it here, too....whew,...not even I want to read all that! lol.
So, no worries about this thread, I love it. Besides, those of us, that have been using that thread regularly, still visit all over the board, but I told Melissa I was all for it, bc it gives me one place to keep going back to...and I am a person, that if no "base"...I am all over everywhere, and get lost...you know, lose track.
Ok, bout #2. I am so proud to tell ppl I am sewing when they call, bc everybody that knows me, knows I have a lot of stash, etc. and always moaning that I have so much to get to. I love to be able to say I am sewing, and I am not an eat off the floor gal either. I just have to do a certain amount, to keep myself happy...ain't nobody coming to do it for me. No cleaning fairies around here.
I'm glad you posted pics here too, cause I get to see what colors, etc. you like. You seem to like a lot of darker, or maybe autumnal colors, right?
I am like, Tiffany, don't want to list all my ufo's. I think on other thread, I just listed the ones I hope to work on this year, and those are the ones, i have actually started and not finished yet. i have dozens of bundles, but they have never been started, so I don't think of them as anything that got started and didn't finish. Geesh Louise, if I did that, I wouldn't sleep at night. I am embarrassed by the size of my stash, but I'm also ecstatic....weird I guess. It's my one vice. I can't help it, but most of them are for other ppl. I just hope I am not taking all that with me, to finish on the other side...don't think I could afford the postage, lol!
:D :D :D :D :D :D :D

K, those are all wonderful. It's good to have something to do when the kids and hubby are gone. What else are you going to do? Clean house all day?!? Like you, I don't do a whole lot of housework but, it's just me here anyway so there isn't a lot of mess. I eat lunch at work and don't usually want dinner so not much dishes or kitchen cleaning to do. I don't watch TV, also just listen to it as it is behind me in the sewing room.

As for WIPS, I've got 3 tops done waiting to be quilted, one that the applique on the pillow area is being worked on (haven't decided on a border yet though), an old, old one that is in the hoop frame about 1/3 quilted (I think), a star quilt that the wedge borders just aren't going to fit and I've about given up on it. I have 6 more planned and have the fabric for that I want so badly to start working on. I just can't let myself start down that road, been there, done that, and it doesn't make me feel good about it when I have so many things to do but nothing gets DONE.
