Nice job. My vote is the first one without the yellow roses.

Ditto! I would not use the roses. It's a beautiful block. Perhaps another block could be for the yellow rose of Texas.

I would put one rose or one cluster of roses in a corner of the main emblem. The rose is meant to be a symbol, not to interfere too much with the overall structure. JMHO.

Without....I vote for leaving the rose(s) off. Can't wait to hear how pleased your stitchin sister is when she receives it.

Love the block, don't care for the roses on it. there just doesn't seem to be a place for them.

My vote is to leave the roses off. The block is great just the way it is. I'm sure your quilting sister will love it no matter what you decide.

You have created a fantastic block!!! As others have said, the addition of the yellow is a good thing and the roses do look nice but your original plain block is also great on its own. Have you considered appliqueing a yellow rose? You might have a piece of fabric in your stash with a yellow rose on it that you could carefully cut and applique. I like the dimension of the roses you've added but depending on what she does with this block that will either be a good thing or maybe not. Whatever you decide, she will surely LOVE this block!

I am a born and bred Texas girl and the yellow rose is one of my absolute favorite flowers. However, for your question, I like the plain block without the roses best. I like things simple and am often of the opinion that "less is more". I personally think the roses detract from the rest of the block. But that's just my opinion.

How about putting the roses in the four corner squares of the border?
