Mary Jo's is located in Gastonia, NC, just west of Charlotte, and just off I-85. You need to get there at least once. It's an amazing experience, especially for a quilter, but there is every type of fabric one can imagine.

I have two girls, and only one got the quilting gene. I jokingly tell the non-quilting one she needs to learn to quilt because all my fabric, machines, etc. will be going to the quilter when I'm gone, but she doesn't bite!

Thanks to all of you for your comments on my road trip with my daughter to Mary Jo's. I can sense you all feel the connection. Wish I could invite you all down for coffee and cake!

I'm so glad for your special day. I've been to Mary Jo's once. I was a very new quilter then and was just too overwhelmed. Very hard to decide what to buy. Now that I know a little more, I'd love to go back.

Sweet enjoy your sewing buddy. My DIL was my sewing buddy before Olivia was born. No time for anything but Olivia now. That's the way it should be for now, but I do miss our sewing discussions.

you have it backwards. you should be going south in the winter and new jersey whenever. it really doesn't matter, because it's damp here all the time and as far as i know, there are no GREAT quilt shops here.  that's why i shop online.
i'm glad you have a shared hobby with your dd wherever you are, though. lucky you. ;)
