For a really warm quilt, I've read some people use both a a layer of cotton and a layer of wool batting in a quilt. If I remember correctly, cotton goes on the bottom. Maybe someone here has done this and can tell you how to layer it.

It's also possible to do two layers of batting. A layer of 80/20 and a then on top a layer of the wool. You will have a very warm quilt to rest underneath and the quilting will be defined and beautiful.

I am really glad to read this post. I have a bundle of Hobbs wool batting bought at Hobby Lobby on clearance, on a top shelf and have not used it because of a negative post I read somewhere. After all the time of putting a quilt together I didn't want any problems. Glad to read this post

I have used wool and bamboo batt for a warm and lightweight quilt. I believe it was a Hobbs wool.

I was always cold especially when the nights got down to freezing here in So CA. But then at Kohl's they have mattress pad heaters which I think work much better than electric blankets and I was never cold in bed again. Doesn't use much electricity either. Larger sizes have dual heating controls.

I've used Hobbs and I loved it. It has such a nice hand and almost feels silky. It handled very well is my Sweet 16 and my domestic too. I don't use it as my every day batting, but for special projects I splurge.

I have added a layer of flannel (drapery insulation 54) to the wool batting and it really added to the warmth without adding too much to the cost.
