Wool pressing mat? Used one?

If you order from ecorugpads.com, beware that they may send you smaller than what you paid for. I ordered a specific size for my ironing board, and it came 2" shorter in both directions. I complained, and they cut and sent another pad, but the customer service rep who wrote me said, "in the future, be sure to specify they not cut it smaller,

I said to myself, "what the hay??" on those pressing mat prices! So... I found a great site (EcoRugPads.com)that cuts a 3/4" thick pure wool felted pieces any size you request, and ships for free, and quick. They have all types of material.. but, I chose the 100% wool, called Nature's Cushion. It may not be as thick as the 1/2" size, but it works just the same. For about 18.00. If you want it thicker, you could probably sew two pieces together. Works great!
Well, what am I doing wrong? I just entered sizes for the 100% wool rug pad (Nature's Cushion) of 18"x18" inches and the price showed at $44.95. Is this what you guys ordered?
I may try again and see what happens. Thanks for the information, in any case!

First - read ecorug's directions carefully. I used the eco fiber, it is 100% wool and is available in the 1/2" thickness (Nature's Cushion only goes up to 3/8", if that 1/8" matters to you).
From the website: "How much shorter should a felt rug pad be than your actual rug?
Approximately 1-1.5 inches on all sides. Rug pads will be cut 1-1.5 inches smaller on all sides."
You are giving the measurements for your "carpet". This product is sold as a carpet pad. So when you give the measurements for a carpet, the pad for said carpet will be 1" to 1-1/2" smaller on each side (so 2'-3" less total in each direction. The pad would then not show under the edge of your carpet.
Since we aren't using it for this purpose, you need to Add to the measurement to get the size you really want. I was able to easily cut the one I ordered. I ordered 2' wide to fit a Better Board, but 2' longer than the Better Board so I would also have a piece to travel with.
When you put the measurements in, the first column is for feet. So if you want an 18" piece, you put in 1' x 8" for the rug size. Put that measurement in for both length and width. Remembering that the cut will be smaller (see above) than your rug. You can enter this for eco fiber - it's $25.95 before the 15% discount (which has been on there every time I've ever looked). For the Nature's Cushion, the $44.95 price is for any size up to 3' 11". So you either get a larger one and cut it down (I cut mine with my paper scissors, went through the whole thing easily), or put directions in the special notes section. Maybe call or email to get pricing on one that small. They might have a scrap they could send?

PS - If you order 1' 10" x 3' 4", it's $44.95 and you could cut it in half to get two. Maybe go in with a friend, or have one for home and one for travel, if you keep a travel kit package and want one that big to go in it. That'd make it $19.10 each after the discount.
Also - many people iron directly on these. I cannot tolerate wool against my skin, so slipped the small one in an old pillow case. The extra bonus is that I can just take the case off to wash. The one on my Big Board is obviously covered by the cover.

Just ordered a Natures Cushion rug pad for my ironing board! Looking forward to trying it. I also purchased (from a different site) 3 Mustang Wool Pad Liners ... 30x30, 1/2" thick. These I'm going to cut up for various ironing pads for myself and my daughter and gifts!

Felt board for quilters
Okay, so I have seen a couple of people on a Featherweight site using these wool felt pressing mats. I'm wondering what the wool content is and if they are really worth the money? The only one I could find for sale online was $68! It had better be the best thing since toilet paper, at that price. Do any of you have one? Have used one? Thoughts?
Thanks!
Kathy
